World Space Week is the global counterpart to National Space Day, turning the planet into a week-long celebration of science, technology, and the wonders of the cosmos. Marked by the 1957 launch of Sputnik 1 and the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, it's packed with thousands of events, from schools and museums to space agencies and astronomy clubs, all designed to inspire curiosity, showcase groundbreaking space tech, and remind us why exploring the unknown matters. Saturn will be at "opposition" -- its closest approach to Earth. It will be brighter this week than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view and photograph Saturn and its moons. A medium-sized or larger telescope will allow you to see Saturn's rings and a few of its brightest moons. Fun fact: Saturn's rings are relatively new. They coalesced around the same time that trees and sharks were making their first appearance on Earth some 400 million years ago.

The waning crescent moon will not be much of a problem this year. Bonus, you you don't have to wake up early for this one! The radiant point is highest in the sky just as darkness falls. The cause of this shower - Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner - was at perihelion in March of this year. Will we finally see a storm of Draconid meteors this year? Yes please! The radiant point for the Draconid meteor shower almost coincides with the head of the constellation Draco the Dragon in the northern sky. That's why you can view the Draconids best from the Northern Hemisphere (and early in the Evening.)
